We have a very special dog this week for our Wag Your Tail Spotlight Dog!
Sunshine's human Kim O. shared with us:
This is Sunshine. Shes a "pound puppy", around 3 yrs old. We believe she's a bisigii/terrier or whippet mix.
I was diagnosed with stage three non-small cell carcinoma about a year after she decided to come home with us.
So here we are with a pup that knows the basics and me fighting for my life.
Sunshine chose to be my guardian. She rarely left my bedside and I took great comfort in having her warm body pressed up against mine. Her intuitive nature was spot on.
A year later and with a bit of extra training, my little Sunshine stepped right up and turned into a red-vested, registered service dog.
She reminds me to take my medications and is able to help me up from the ground, but I think her most spectacular feat is she gave be a bit of freedom. I am unable to drive at this point in my life, but provides me with the freedom to take long walks and not worry about chemo/radiation fog. Sunshine will always take me back home.
