We have two very special dogs this week for our Wag Your Tail Spotlight Dog!

Honey and Elsa's human Margaret shared with us:

Honey is a Maltese Shitzu and toy poodle and was tied into a garbage bag and dumped in 2013. In the photo, she is wearing the pink harness and is doing her best to ignore Elsa.

Elsa, who is a Maltese Shitzu, although from the set of her front legs I wouldn't be at all surprised to find a bit of pug in there somewhere. She was found tied to an abandoned factory and joined our family in November 2014.

When Honey joined my family another fur baby lived here, a schipperke by the name of Jeze, who in no way considered herself a dog and tried to pass that belief onto Honey. Jeze would look in horror whenever Honey did the least thing "dog" and soon Honey would first glance towards Jeze before engaging in any play, obviously for approval. Jeze also instilled in Honey the knowledge that Jeze's chair remained Jeze's chair even when Jeze wasn't in it, as well as passing on how to help me as the disability continues to advance on me. Jeze too was a rescue, I discovered her hiding under a pile of rubbish in an abandoned building 15 years earlier. Jeze passed away in January 2014, so for a time we returned to a one fur baby family.

All of my furry companions have been with me constantly, there are very few instances where they are left alone. Now that I can no longer walk as I used to, Honey & Elsa travel in pet slings on either side of my body whilst we travel on my mobility scooter to minister to our friends among the street folk and homeless, just as Jeze used to, only she sat on my lap. Both girls enjoy the experience immensely and they also enjoy our weekly visits with my two grand kids. In fact Jeze initially, and then Honey & Elsa have been instrumental in helping my grandson (5) overcome a fear of dogs. It is a joy to see both grandchildren with Honey & Elsa, my grand-daughter aged 7 is far braver and often can be found cuddling one or other of the two, whereas my grandson enjoys rubbing their bellies as they lie beside him.
