Service Dog Vest Sizing Instructions
The most important thing you can do to make sure you order the right vest is to measure your dog using these instructions. If you don't measure, you're taking a chance that you'll have to return it and reorder. Measure your dog once and you'll be done!

We know you want your Service Dog or Therapy Dog to look professional and neat when you go out. We are pleased to offer you these high quality vests. We know that you and your dog will be pleased. The vest is designed for long lasting wear and comfort for your dog. A reflective strip is on each vest for added nighttime safety. You won't find a better fit for your dog any where. The colors are beautiful and the vest is durable for long service. You can hand wash the vest and hang it to dry. Snaps and zipper pulls are for easy open and close. The vest is often referred to as a service dog cape.

Use a soft fabric measuring tape. Measure all the way around the rib cage, full circle. Just like a saddle fits a horse. Your dog must be standing.

NOTE: If you have a really small dog, the Tiny vest can be altered to fit. Cut a strip out and sew it back together with a sewing machine. This will allow you to go down to a 9 inch girth.

Colors

Not all colors are available in Ready to Wear vests. We have all our vests and patches available individually so you can create your own combination. Keep in mind that we do not do custom sewing. If you don't find what you need in our Ready to Wear area, you'll need to order the vests and patches you need and either glue them on yourself or find a local person that can sew them on for you.

What does the vest color mean? Nothing really. There is no regulation that says your dog has to wear a certain color of service vest or cape. You simply get the one you like best.

Printing

We do not print or embroider. We leave that up to you so you can make sure it's done just the way you want it. We don't do any special orders for sewing patches.

It is fraudulent to represent your dog as a service animal if it is not.

Here is some important information about service dogs:

Service Dog Definition: Only dogs are recognized as service animals under titles II and III of the ADA. Service Dogs are defined as dogs that are individually trained to do work or perform tasks for people with disabilities. Examples of such work or tasks include guiding people who are blind, alerting people who are deaf, pulling a wheelchair, alerting and protecting a person who is having a seizure, reminding a person with mental illness to take prescribed medications, calming a person with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) during an anxiety attack, or performing other duties. Service animals are working animals, not pets. The work or task a dog has been trained to provide must be directly related to the person's disability. Dogs whose sole function is to provide comfort or emotional support do not qualify as service animals under the ADA. This definition does not affect or limit the broader definition of "assistance animal" under the Fair Housing Act or the broader definition of "service animal" under the Air Carrier Access Act. Some state and local laws also define service animal more broadly than the ADA does. Information about such laws can be obtained from the State attorney general's office, or one can visit the ADA website for answers to some commonly asked questions.

  1. Extremely useable

Posted by Ellen Elliott Weatherbee on 13th Sep 2014

We have owned several of these capes for our service dog, and they are wonderful. They fit well, are comfortable, and very good-looking. We keep Heidi's ID in one of the zipper pockets. They wash well and always look crisp and new.

  2. x msall is not so small

Posted by Unknown on 24th Aug 2014

It's a very well made product but it is a little big for my chihuahua-jack Russel mix. He looks cute but it would be better if the vest were shorter

  3. runs very lsrge

Posted by marian on 21st Aug 2014

The jacket sizing is very large. At first I ordered a small for my chichua mix and it fit him like an oversized dress. I ordered an ex,-small and it is still big. My dog is 13 pounds.

It is sturdy and well made.

  4. Great Product

Sturdy and bright. Comfortable as well.

  5. Outstanding service vest

Posted by Unknown on 27th Apr 2014

I use this vest about every day, including long hikes in the woods, as I am a botanist and trip leader. The patches are sewn on very well, the zippers are great for little snacks and her ID, and it looks brand new after lots of wear. This is the third one we've owned, as we rotate between her orange, red, and blue vests, just for fun. It goes on easily--I just say "get dressed," and she tucks in her head, I buckle it, and we're ready to go.

  6. Like the service dog vest

Posted by Unknown on 15th Apr 2014

The size, shape, and fit of this product is very, very good. I especially like the adjustable straps and the zipper pockets. My only complaint is that it has to be hand-washed.

  7. great, fast true to suze

Posted by maryLou on 7th Mar 2014

I was truly blown away by the measurement accuracy. My dog is a Basset, they are not easy to guesstimate.
Our vest fits like a dream, is superb quality and we couldn't be happier!!

  8. Excellent Product, Excellent Value

Posted by Unknown on 16th Feb 2014

The vest is attractive, well made and strongly constructed. It looks nice and will last for several years.

  9. Service Dog Jacket

Posted by Unknown on 5th Nov 2013

I'm very happy with the quality of the jacket because of the quality of the material as well as its construction.

  10. Quality materials on this service dog vest!

Posted by Nadine on 21st Oct 2013

The materials used on this service dog vest seem to be high quality. The material feels very rugged and durable. All of the straps are well attached and the vest just feels solid. It fits my dog well and is holding up to daily use.
