Grain free! Dogs instinctively crave raw meat and will choose meat over grains when given a choice. The natural results of this higher quality nutrition include better skin & coat, healthier teeth & gums, increased energy, and less backyard clean-up. The protein in Nature's Variety Instinct is derived from meat - primarily high quality rabbit meal and salmon meal, bound together by highly digestible tapioca (which is naturally grain and gluten free). Fruit and vegetables are also added as natural sources of important vitamins. These high quality, wholesome ingredients are blended together with care to meet your pet's Instinct for a grain-free, nutrient dense diet. The bags are recloseable with a zip seal. The kibble is about 1/4" in diameter. Nature's Variety food is made right here in the U.S.A. at USDA inspected facilities.

Brand: Nature's Variety
Source: All products raised and processed in the U.S.A.
Packaged in the U.S.A.

As with all dry kibble, the actual pellets are cooked in the process. They are then coated with freeze dried raw meat and salmon oil.

What's NOT in the bag: Grains, glutens, potato or other inexpensive fillers or chemical preservatives.

Why Tapioca?
Nature's Variety has a unique dry diet containing no grains and no potatoes as carbohydrate sources. Instead, Instinct uses tapioca to provide the carbohydrate calories. Additionally, this formula provides higher amounts of animal-sourced proteins than most other commercial diets available. Potatoes have traditionally been used in "hypoallergenic" foods. Reports of grain allergic dogs, that are also now developing allergies to potatoes, have been on the rise, as well as reports of natural toxins that manifest themselves during high temperature processing. There are no known allergies to tapioca, and many veterinary teaching hospitals incorporate tapioca in homemade recipes for food allergies.

FEEDING GUIDE AND INSTRUCTIONS: Sudden changes in diet can sometimes result in digestive disturbances. Do not overfeed regardless of the pet’s acceptance and eagerness. Overfeeding is the most common cause of digestive upset. Always introduce any new diet over a period of days mixing with the present diet. Always keep fresh water available at all times and offer plenty of activity.

Feeding amounts should be decreased in proportion to the amount of supplementation with other Nature’s Variety Diets and Treats. Daily portions may vary according to age, size, environment, temperament, breed and activity level

One of the best foods Date: September 18, 2010
I would recommend this to a friend

I researched...a lot about what food was good for dogs. I just don't have the time to prepare fresh food every day for my dog. My dog has arthritis, and I found that even foods made with potatoes can exacerbate the condition. This is the only food made with tapioca, no known allergies or issues. I feed much less than I used to, and my dog seems happier and more energetic than before the food.

PORK is labeled “Natural Flavor” Date: November 10, 2010
Instinct RABBIT for dogs & cats January 5, 2009 "... As part of our continuous improvement efforts, we recently found an opportunity to improve the texture, flavor, and aroma of our Instinct rabbit kibble. .... We have carefully selected a natural PORK (dried meat) flavor for use on the rabbit kibble products; this is labeled “Natural Flavor” on the ingredient panel." *** this used to be great kibble, BUT they changed the ingredients! and the ingredient list is NOT accurate. i have cats who will not eat pork.
