This card is a simple tool for service dog owners. It will assist you when entering a business. The cards were designed to ease the burden of having to remember and relay federal guidelines which go along with owning a service dog. Now you just hand business owners one of these. On one side it says "I'm a Service Dog" and indicates that your dog is a Service Dog - an animal individually trained to perform tasks for people with disabilities. It has the toll free phone number to the U.S. Department of Justice should the business owner have any questions. On the flip side of the card is a summary of the Americans with Disabilities Act as it relates to Service Dogs. It outlines the questions businesses can ask and what they can't do.

  • "I'm a Service Dog"
  • Give it to businesses when you enter
  • Has the toll-free government number they can call if they have questions
  • Provides them with ADA information including what they can't ask (see below)

The back of the card says:

In accordance with the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990

Businesses May ask:
   1) Is this a Service Dog?
   2) What tasks does the Service Dog perform?

Businesses May Not:
   1) Require special identification for the dog.
   2) Ask about the person's disability.
   3) Charge additional fees because of the dog.
   4) Refuse admittance, isolate, segregate, or treat this person less        favorably than other patrons.

A person with a disability cannot be asked to remove his service animal from the premises unless:

   1) the animal is out of control and the animal's owner does not take        effective action to control it.
   2) the animal poses a direct threat to the health or safety of others.

Any business that sells or prepares food must allow service animals in public areas even if state or local health codes prohibit animals on the premises.

Refusal to provide equal access to people with disabilities with service animals is a federal civil rights violation, provided by the American Disability Act of 1990. Violators of the ADA can be required to pay money damages and penalties.

When folded this card measures 3.5" x 2", the same size as a standard business card. You'll want to keep these tucked away in your service dog's vest.

I would recommend this to a friend

have not been able to take Dakota into Wal-Mart,they wouldn't allow dogs in. I went there yesterday and this woman came over and told me to leave no dogs allowed.I whipped out a service dog card and handed it to her along with my 2 cents worth.she started to stutter and I just walked away..10 mins later the manager came up to me and apologize saying service dogs are always allowed in their stores..

Great Date: April 7, 2011

I have given this card out to most of the merchants in my home town, so that they will be better informed about Service Animals as well as the public will be better informed. The cards are great, I think ALL merchants should be required to have at least one at hand at all times. I have been advocating for Service Animals in my home town for over 6 years since I am disabled and require a Service Animal my disability is not visible, but my service animal is required none the less. So when I go into an establishment I go right up to the Manager and give him/her a card and there is usually no problem, there are usually some questions because the person asking the questions is not informed of what they can and can not ask but the card clears that up.

Worth every penny Date: June 22, 2011

My service DOGS are Dachshunds, not Labs, not German Shepherds, and people just don't get it that they don't have to be big to be able to perform a necessary service for me. And I have been HARASSED more than once in Alabama by attendants in their state rest areas, even tho my dog was wearing a service dog vest. One even threatened to call the police. I believe these cards will put an end to a lot of this nonsense. I may personally glue one on the forehead of a certain person in Alabama. Buy these, save yourself the aggravation. Life is too short.

Accidental great idea Date: June 23, 2011

I bought these cards 8 years ago when I bought the first vest and patches for my service dog. It was just a whim. Not only do I give them out to business owners and employees, I probably give even more of them to people asking me about how to get a service dog. I write pertinent information about contacts and trainers on the card and of course I circle the SitStay logo and tell them that's the only place to go for any supplies.

Very handy... Date: September 19, 2011
I would recommend this to a friend

I have yet to use this with a store employee (fortunately, have not had a confrontation recently) but it is very reassuring to know that I will have the information with me to help them understand the rights of service dogs. I always show them to others with service dogs and they always want to know where to get them.

So useful Date: October 25, 2011

These cards say it all, taking the guesswork out of bringing my Service Dog into "sensitive" places like restaurants. A Service Dog is not a pet, and the ADA laws on these cards illustrate this fact. These cards will save me arguments and headaches. I bought the smallest number of cards but will definitely reorder when I have given them all away.

I LOVE them Date: January 6, 2012

Thank you for making my life EASY, in truth I was so sick of having to constantly explain "you can't ask me that" and being told what they could and couldn't say, or of course what I had to deal with. Being Military we move so you don't get comfy cozy in one spot to long, these cards are nice, why? hand one out and keep going it answers all the questions in one stop... Now no more frustrations no more arguements and people that are not aware become aware. One Buisiness I gave the card to has held onto it, I frequent there and ANYTIME he has a customer give grief about Celeste he approaches and has them read the card... I recommend the card just to ease the headaches (Especially in walmart their greeters don't seem to be as educated on Service dogs as they like you to believe)

Great Help! Date: February 2, 2012
I would recommend this to a friend

These cards assist in more ways than one; they give information to public entities on what they can and cannot do/say/ask as well educate the general public to the facts of service dogs and handlers in our communities. Great Deal! We need more as well as one that is laminated to carry in every handlers pocket and service dogs pack/pouch!
